The Utility System Repairer-Operator (USRO) Leader is responsible for leading and directing USROs and other support staff in the maintenance and operation of water and wastewater treatment systems. Incumbent is responsible for maintenance and repair of chlorination systems, pumps, floats, water line and sewer line repairs, meter adjustments, valve replacements, sludge beds, electrical repairs, and testing equipment. Troubleshoots and repairs new and existing piping systems, pressure flowmeters, sonic meters, and turbidity meters. Incumbent will lead and set work schedules for up to several lower graded employee's, insuring work is completed on time to park and utilities department specifications. Incumbent will recommend to supervisor the hiring, assigning, seasonal release, disciplining and rewarding of staff. Incumbent participates in Park risk management programs, including safety meetings, job hazard analysis, and environmental protecting efforts.
Area Information: Yosemite National Park, California, known worldwide for its spectacular natural beauty is the backdrop for this position. Sitting astride the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the park covers 1,182 square miles of varied wilderness ecosystems, from river valleys to alpine meadows to lofty 13,000 foot high peaks. Yosemite Valley is located 208 miles from San Francisco, 81 miles from Merced, and 94 miles from Fresno. Shopping, medical, postal and laundry services are available in the park. Elevation at the Valley floor is approximately 4,000 feet and 2,200 feet in El Portal. The park is open year-round with the majority of activities occurring during the busy season March through October. Physical Demands: Regularly lifts, carries, and handles items weighing up to 50 pounds. Uses mechanical equipment to handle heavy items (over 50 pounds). Works in uncomfortable positions for extended periods. There is frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching and stooping. Extreme effort is occasionally required in the operation of large hand tools.You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
