JOB SUMMARY: This position is located within the Department of Commerce (DOC), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Southwest Fisheries Science Center (SWFSC) with 1 vacancy located in San Diego, California. MAJOR DUTIES: As a Biological Science Technician, you will perform the following duties: - Responsible for all aspects of laboratory management for a high throughput molecular laboratory by maintaining specialized lab equipment, coordinating the use of shared laboratory spaces, and providing training and oversight for a variety of complex molecular laboratory techniques and equipment. - Conducts research including, but not limited to, performing DNA extractions, sequencing and other standard molecular standard molecular techniques; participates in field research and stranding response as needed. - Participates in complex project planning and budgeting with program and project leads. Liaises with operations and management staff to ensure laboratory project, supply and equipment needs are met. - Monitors and tracks the laboratory budget, acts as a purchase card holder to purchase supplies and equipment, and maintains working knowledge of purchasing and procurement policies and procedures.
