Project summary

The Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA program places AmeriCorps VISTA members with campus and community partners. During this year, members spend 35 hours per week on their host site’s campus to work on building systems and programs that support low-income college students and community members. The VISTA member works to build community capacity by enhancing or creating systems, structures, and resources.

Opportunity description

The VISTA Member serving at Michigan State University will map health and environmental factors, developing an action plan to transform Ingham county into a "Blue Zone".

Requirements and qualifications

Requirements

BA/BS or equivalent experience, US citizen, national, DACA status, or legal permanent resident, Must be able to complete a federal background check, Valid driver's license and access to personal vehicle.

Preferred qualifications

Experience recruiting and engaging community stakeholders. knowledge of community development. Strong reading. writing and researching skills. Interest in health disparities and the natural/built environment. Grant writing or fund development experience. Media creation skills.
